Firm History

The history of Parke, Guptill & Company, LLP is a picture of industry dedication and leadership, framed by a firm devoted to serving clients’ needs.

 

The firm was founded in 1964.  Our original partners, Ralph Parke and Bill Guptill, met while attending California State University, Los Angeles as accounting majors.  Both Ralph and Bill then worked for CPA firms and in industry (Ralph for a large real estate developer; Bill for a finance company, truck body manufacturer and entertainment company).  Ralph and Bill maintained contact through the years.  After continued discussions, they decided to form a partnership and opened the business’ doors in June 1964 as Parke, Guptill & Co. 

 

Some of our key milestones through the years include:

1964:  Doors open as Parke, Guptill & Co. by Ralph Parke and Bill Guptill

1966:  Ralph and Bill merge with another firm, work on first auto dealership clients

1968:  Firm now has over ten automobile dealership clients

1968:  Firm moves to West Covina (offices also in San Bernardino)

1972:  Partners become members of the California Motor Car Dealers Association

1974:  Firm among the first CPA practices in the nation to apply LIFO to auto dealers

1975:  Bill Guptill writes Auto & Truck Dealership LIFO Inventory Accounting Manual

1981:  Firm becomes known as the “Automotive Accounting Specialists”

1980:  We earn the business of our 100^th auto dealership client

1982:  We initiate our now industry-famous “Automotive Employees’ Compensation Survey”

1987:  The “Los Angeles Business Journal” ranks Parke, Guptill & Company in the Top 25 accounting firms in the Los Angeles area

2003:  Firm serves over 125 franchised dealerships

2006:  Firm moves to its present location

 

The first few years of the 21^st century have seen continued growth opportunities for the personnel at Parke, Guptill & Company, LLP.  Dan Duir and Jonathan Forgy were accepted as partners with the firm in 2003.  We have added exceptional staff that has an opportunity to follow in the footsteps of those who have made partner before them.

 

The past 40 years have been a tremendous timeframe for Parke, Guptill & Company, LLP.  We look forward to serving our clients today and in the future.
